Introduction to Robotium Automation

So far in all our previous post of Robotium automation testing series, we were discussing about

• What is Android and Android automation ?
• Different tools for automating android
• Writing native application in android

But from this part, we will start to discuss about Robotium

• Robotium as we already discussed, is an android testing framework for automating hybrid and native applications
• You can install (reference) Robotium by downloading it from https://code.google.com/p/robotium/

• Pros and Cons

  • Well, there are some pros and cons of Robotium compared to other freely available tools like appium or calabash

  Robotium	Appium and Calabash
  Implementation is in java, hence easy to write code	Implementation is in Javascript and ruby respectively
  Supports ONLY Android	Support Android and iOS
  Need little knowledge on the underlaying AUT implementation	Not much required
  Supports multiple activities seamlessly	We too can J
  We have Robotium Testrecorder (comes with price tag)	No such thing, need to figure out manually L
